Almost 1 year ago, I had to say goodbye to Rocky. Rocky was a Lab/German Shepherd mix, we adopted during the Holiday Season in 1999. He was the kind of dog I poured my heart out to. There were times when I was in the backyard with him telling him, “Only you understand me”. He saw me go through so many major transitions in my life. I was 11 years old when I picked Rocky out of a litter of 3 puppies. For the first few months after I got him I spent the night with my hand in his box trying to keep him calm. For 6 months, I wrapped him up in a blanket and rocked him to sleep for his naps. He was there when I went through junior high, high school, and college. I remember when he tore both of his cruciates (the equivalent of our ACLs), and my mom and dad didn’t hesitate to get him into surgery. He was there when I brought home the love of my life for the first time, and Rocky loved Matt just as much as I did. He was also there when Matt and I were married, 5 years later. He even wore a bow tie.
Even though it has been a year, my keyboard is still stained with tears. Its amazing the bonds we form in this life, especially with our pets. Rocky was my confidant, my friend, and my Christmas puppy. I miss you and I will love you forever.
